 | 2007 must have been the most significant yet in Bon Accord's renovation. |
The high point was certainly the successful steam test in October, this being the final hurdle in getting Bon Accord back into steam service, planned for mid 2008. The year’s achievements are listed as follows... 1) Mounting of newly arrived boiler back onto the frames. 2) Trial fitting of Cab and Water Tank. 3) Rebuild of steam dome cover and cylinder cover plates. 4) Completion of pistons and external motion / running gear. 5) Smokebox internals including steam piping and blower ring. 6) Smokebox door and internal chimney installation. 7) Backhead equipment - fire hole door, level gauges and turret. 8) Successful steam test, witnessed by the Insurance Inspector. 9) Procurement of vacuum brake equipment. 10) Commencement of lagging to boiler and firebox. These could not have been achieved without the generous help of local businesses, fellow heritage societies, and the selfless devotion of the members. The Bon Accord Locomotive Society would like to thank all our friends and well-wishers, from near and far, for their kind and generous support. A very happy and safe New Year to you all !!
The "High Point" of 2007: Thursday 25th October. Bon Accord's boiler passed its final steam test. Steam was raised and the test was witnessed by the boiler inspector. Once the test was completed the regulator was opened and the engine driven was back into the shed! |
