On Sunday 9th May 2010, Jim Bramwell died while hill-walking with friends. Jim was a central part of the restoration team working on Bon-Accord over the past decade. His leadership, great engineering skill, and friendship will be greatly missed.
In words of another member of restoration team: “I don’t think there is a single area of Bon Accord that Jim has not had a hand in. His energy, range of skills and capability never ceased to amaze me”.
Sadly, Jim died just a few days before Bon-Accord’s inaugural steaming at the Royal Deeside Railway. After discussion it was decided to go ahead with the test run – the first time Bon-Accord had travelled under her own steam power since 1964. The day became a tribute to Jim and his tremendous part in the restoration of Bon-Accord. Throughout the day, the word was "If only Jim could see this ". |

Bon-Accord will shortly been moving to its new purpose built shed at the Milton of Crathes, Aberdeenshire. After a long wait for planning approval a temporary, safe storage building has been built at the station area of the Royal Deeside Railway. This will be Bon-Accord’s new home. We are looking forward to seeing her in steam during the 2010 railway season. |

Today - Thursday 27th November 2008 - Bon-Accord was successfully steamed AND HAS PASSED ITS FINAL STEAM TEST INSPECTION This marks the official completion of the restoration of this 1897 Andrew Barclay locomotive, formally used at the Gas Works in Aberdeen. An amazing achievement by all the volunteers and members of the Bon-Accord Locomotive Society over many years, and made possible by grants from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, and personal and corporate sponsors. The fight to preserve Bon-Accord began back in 1964! |
